Studies show that over 70% of people have “Read More” as their New Years Resolution, but people are terrible at keeping their resolutions. Our suggestion is to do it with a friend or five! Below are suggestions for various book clubs. No book club is complete without drinks, so we also add the perfect pairing. Hope we can help you jumpstart your reading efforts!
For a book club of…
Couples – Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan. We believe this book has universal appeal. Based on a true account, Pino Lella finds himself on the “Forgotten Front” of Italy during World War II. His story has it all – courage, love, and heartbreak. Oh, and this is being adapted into a movie starring Tom Holland (Spiderman for fellow Marvel fans)! Check out full B2C review here.
Pairing – Set in Italy, you know this book must be paired with an Italian wine. We recommend a red as bold as Pino himself. Find yourself a nice Amarone della Valpolicella and enjoy!
Colleagues – Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. If you have followed us lately, you know this is one of our favorite new books. Trust the hype and enjoy as your entire office roots on Kya as proves to be much more than just the “Marsh Girl.” This one definitely has some To Kill a Mockingbird vibes in all the right places. Check out full B2C review here.
Pairing – Stand out. Everyone always brings wine that they drink themselves. Bring a champagne for everyone to start with. You can’t go wrong with Vueve Cliquot, but we like to mix it up with Tattinger.
Basic Betches – When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger. Do you love your Lulus and athleisure wear? Do you re-watch Devil Wears Prada? If so, you will adore this read which tells Emily Charlton’s post-Runaway magazine story. Emily is a celebrity fixer who feels like she is losing her touch. Cue an A-list model turned senator’s wife in a tricky bind, and Emily pounces to become relevant again. This novel is fun, witty, sarcastic and betchy – perfect for reading with your favorite gals! Check out full B2C review here.
Pairing – Rose (duh!) try Whispering Angel, if you haven’t already. (Jen went frose below)
Moms – The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Glitz, glam and emerald green, this is the story of a Hollywood golden girl who decides to write the story of her life at 79 years old about her career, life and perhaps more interestingly, her seven husbands. If you love old Hollywood and aren’t afraid of a few twists this book is for you. Warning! If it is a are very conservative group, this may not be your cup of tea. Check out full B2C review here.
Pairing – You deserve a break. Pair this book with the wine of your choice. Just make sure it’s a double bottle…
Light Readers – Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman. If you haven’t read a book in ages, we do not recommend jumping into Infinite Jest. Dip your toe in the water (shameless pun intended) with a fast-paced, thriller that was immediately picked up by Reece Witherspoon’s production company. Check out full B2C review here.
Pairing – This light, breezy read should be paired with a light, breezy wine. You can’t go wrong with Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc – always an easy fan favorite.
Recent Grads – The Futures by Anna Pitoniak. Life post-college comes with new adventures but also foreign challenges. Follow Julia and Evan’s journey from the campus bubble to adulthood. The struggles they face both at work and in their relationship will make you realize that you are not alone. Check out full B2C review here.
Pairing – Drop the box of Franzia and upgrade to a bottle of California Chardonnay. While Cupcake has more recognition, we highly recommend pivoting to Frog’s Leap (one of our favorite Napa vineyards).
Sports Fans – Tiger by Jeff Benedict Reading is easier when it involves sports, scandal and the most recognizable athlete in the world. Revisit Tiger’s rise, dominance and fall from grace like never before. We suggest having this book club meeting on the course. Check out full B2C review here.
Pairing – Your favorite golf course drink – make it a transfusion or a Bud Light tall boy.
