My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

The back cover says “Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith”. Yes, please. This was my most anticipated book of 2019, and it delivered exactly as I hoped.

What is the saying? Couples who kill together, stay together? We are a couple who blog together; other couples seduce and murder. Who are we to judge? Millicent and her husband appear to have the perfect relationship with two beautiful kids living in a coveted country club township of Florida. No one would ever suspect their sinister secret to a happy marriage.

I won’t reveal any more plot. I want all of our followers to enjoy the twists, deception, adrenaline rush and “oh shit” moments as I did. I raced to the finish – commending the deadly duos planning, fearing the unintended consequences, and hating myself for loving all the darkness and deceit.

I appreciate that Downing kept her narrative simple. Lately, books love to jump time frames or perspective, but she kept it old school as we experience everything through Millicent’s husband. This inserts the reader into the action as well as the emotion and uncertainty allowing the book to pack a powerful punch.

I highly recommend pre-ordering this one and finishing it before your friends. I would bet this is on the small or big screen before too long!

Verdict: 5/5 Stars
Length: 384 pages
When: You want a thrilling, disturbing, unconventional “love” story that both you and your significant other can enjoy.
Quote: I stare at her. My lovely wife. “It’s demented.” I say. She raises an eyebrow at me. Before she can speak, I put my finger against her lips. “And it’s brilliant,” I say.
Also Try: Please watch Dexter – the fourth season is one of the best in television history. If you have watched the show, also give the book series a try with Darkly Dreaming Dexter by James Lindsay
