You Were Made For This by Michelle Sacks

Ever have a love-hate relationship? Magnify that by 1,000x and you get Merry and Frank.

On the surface, Merry appears to have the perfect life and be the perfect wife. She moves from Brooklyn to Sweden for her husband, has a beautiful son and takes care of everything in the home. On the surface, she appears to be “made for this”.

However, gradually a Swedish paradise starts to feel like a prison. Merry is reinvigorated when her best girlfriend, Frank, decides to visit. Soon after, it becomes clear the girls deserve a spot on Dr. Phil to discuss some deep-rooted issues that quickly begin to escalate. They could appear on the same segment as Tom Ripley and Dickie Greenleaf (See: The Talented Mr. Ripley).

Despite the tension and clear conflict on the horizon, I couldn’t get into this book. For me, all the characters were a little too despicable. Ok fine except baby Conor. Although, he did cry literally the entire book! Merry’s husband was a control freak, Frank was an over-the-top mess and Merry was…. well you’ll have to find that out for yourself.

The alternating perspective was fun, the drama was… well, dramatic bordering outrageous, but the issue was I didn’t really care what happened to anyone.

Verdict: Skip It. (2.5/5 Stars)
Length: 352 pages
When: your life doesn’t have enough drama and the Real Housewives can’t fill that need
Instead Read: The Social Creature by Tara Isabella Burton (B2C Review)
