The Widow of Wall Street by Randy Susan Meyers

The WIdow of Wall StreetDo you really understand your partner’s job? After decades of marriage, Phoebe discovers her husband, Jake, is not who she thought he was when the FBI breaks down her door.

Jake is exposed as the mastermind behind a very large Ponzi scheme. He losses the money of his clients, destroys his children’s business and drags Phoebe into the mess as a possible partner in crime.

A shocked Phoebe scrambles to convince others she is also a victim to her husband’s dishonesty. However, she struggles at times – how could she have not known? Her friends shun her, her assets are frozen and her kids give her an ultimatum – her husband or them.

I had a hard time connecting with Phoebe and her familial dilemma. I wanted her to be angrier. I wanted her to be stronger. Frankly, I wanted her to be more realistic. For me, this novel spent too much time laying the groundwork for its climax.  So many chapters are dedicated to the couples dating history. which I believe was an attempt to rationalize Phoebe’s love for her husband. However, their love story never felt genuine… or very loving.
