Two women find themselves caught in the middle of a worldwide financial scandal including cartels, terrorists, Swiss bank accounts, “accidents” and old-fashion murder. The Banker’s Wife checks all the boxes for the perfect summer thriller.
I was hooked from the start. After just the first two chapters, I trusted Algers would create two strong, resourceful and real female protagonists. First there is Marina, a crafty journalist who is ready to sacrifice her career and passion for her fiancé whose father is about to make a Presidential run. Second there is Angela, the wife of a banker at Swiss United. Both lose something, both make sacrifices, both are in considerable real danger, but both always seem calculated in their decision-making. They make very few mistakes which is good because they cannot afford to make any.
These women’s’ paths are destined to cross as the two are caught up in a potential data leak that could bring down powerful politicians, CEOs and companies across the globe. They must protect their sources, friends and themselves from those who would do literally anything to avoid being exposed.
This book has plenty of twists and turns, betrayals and scandals. I loved how the reader must decide if each character introduced is a real friend or a foe hiding in plain sight. No spoilers in this review but if you want a fast-paced, topical financial thriller then this is definitely for you.
Verdict: Read it! (4/5 Stars)
Length: 352 pages
When: Now! We expect to see this on many Summer 2018 reading lists! Get ahead of the curve and read it before your friends!
