The Gilded Wolves is Game of Thrones meets Discovery of Witches. There is magic, suspense, mystery and history – plus a few very loveable characters.
The year is 1889; the location: Paris. Wealthy hotelier and treasure hunter Séverin Montagnet-Alarie is presented with an offer he cannot refuse – a way to reclaim his true inheritance. Séverin turns to his go-to crew for assistance: the dancer with a dark past, a historian who is not accepted at home, an indebted engineer and his lifelong best friend. Together, they will attempt to hunt down the artifact in question in hopes of personal gain.
It took a little while to get the lay of the land. The writing is very detailed and at first I had trouble understanding the backstory in order to appreciate the events as they unfolded. However, once it registered, the complexity paid off and I really enjoyed it! Once I got to know them I loved the colorful band of misfits, their different personalities and contributions to the group dynamic. Ultimately, they really made the story move and peaked both my interest and affection. I am excited to see where the adventure leads next – this was definitely written as the start of a series!
