Mrs. by Caitlin Macy

MRs. Caitlin MacyWere you a fan of Gossip Girl? Sub in young, Upper East Side pre-school moms and their wealthy husbands in finance and you have Mrs.

This novel is told from the perspective of various pre-school parents. There is the former model (who is unsurprisingly out to lunch), the woman who sacrificed her career for her child and the mom on her second marriage, willing to do anything to make it in the upper echelon of NYC. Then we have their husbands – the successful CEO, the assistant prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office and the slime ball hedge fund manager. The kids who tie these adults together take a back seat to the drama of their parents, whose old skeletons come back to haunt them.

As someone who owned and loved the Gossip Girls series, this book seemed like a no brainer. An adult version, set in the Upper East Side of New York City. However, I did not connect with the characters and actually didn’t really like them, they were all uptown narcissists. Maybe that was Macy’s aim, but as a result, I became mildly disinterested in what they were going through as the novel progressed. While I wanted to love it, this dramatic story fell short for me.

Thank you to Little Brown for giving us a free copy of this book!
