In the mood for sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll? Daisy Jones & The Six is the perfect fix! Recounting the history of an infamous band through interviews, transcripts, stories and song lyrics, Taylor Jenkins Reid once again presents a compelling page turner that is refreshingly different than anything she has done before.
Daisy Jones and The Six started out separately. However, the record label decided the whole was greater than the sum of its parts – much to the chagrin of lead singer Billy Dunne. The novel tracks their rise to fame, success and finally their demise.
When I heard Taylor Jenkins Reid was releasing her next book, I HAD to read it! The dynamics and perspectives of the various band members were encapsulating. The secrets, lies and drama of band politics felt real, especially the battle over creative independence (even though this band is fictional, which I had to keep reminding myself). It is a commentary on human relationships and on a lifestyle that is largely gone today. As someone who loves bands and music, this was both nostalgic and timeless. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Pasquale’s Take
Let me first start off by saying, Jen did not realize this was a fictional band until she was half way through the book. This is a testament to Reid’s incredible writing and creativity. The oral history structure combines one pill Behind the Music and two bumps A Star is Born.
To say I was hooked from the start is an understatement – I went cover-to-cover in 36 hours. I immediately became a Daisy Jones fan. Everyone described her as having a magnetism when she walked into a room; well, I felt that through the pages. I became a groupie following The Six through each stage of their career, caught up in the drama, ecstatic in their success and devastated with their loss.
This book is going to smash the charts and be a huge hit. Get ahead of the curve and order it now! Forget A Star is Born, THIS is the music movie the world needs to dance, laugh and cry over.
Great news! HelloSunshine and Amazon are already in works to develop Daisy Jones & The Six for television!
Too many great quotes to just pick one. The below are great and give you a peak at the insight and intrigue in this novel.
“We love broken, beautiful people. And it doesn’t get much more obviously broken and more classically beautiful than Daisy Jones.”
—–
Daisy: The good life, right? Except the good life never made for a good life. But I am getting ahead of myself
—–
Billy Dunne: That was the beginning of bad time. Where I was not myself. Actually, no. I don’t like putting it that way – you’re never not yourself. You’re always you. It’s just, sometimes, who you are… who you re is a shitty person.
